OPEN Health is delighted to announce its support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Doddie Weir is one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities having earned 61 caps for Scotland and represented the British and Irish Lions on their successful tour to South Africa in 1997.

In June 2017, Doddie revealed he was suffering from motor neurone disease (MND), and from that point forward he has been driven to help fellow sufferers and to seek ways to further research into this, as yet, incurable disease.

In November 2017, Doddie and a board of Trustees launched the registered charity My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, with two aims:

  • To raise funds to aid research into the causes of MND and investigate potential cures
  • To make grants to individuals suffering from MND, to enable them to live as fulfilled lives as possible

As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, OPEN Health believes in using their skills and resources in ways that can benefit charities such as Doddie’s.

“We’ve got such a talented group of people here, we need to use those talents to help others” commented Margot Hannah, Partner and CSR lead at OPEN Health.

Drawing on its scientific and communications skills, this year OPEN Health is supporting the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation in producing reports and summaries of stakeholder meetings held to establish the best ways to make a difference in MND.

“I’m absolutely thrilled that OPEN Health is giving its time and scientific expertise to help our charity. Over a lifetime, 1 in 300 people will develop MND and it can occur at any age, this means it’s incredibly important to raise further awareness so we can get the funds needed to secure research to find a cure” commented Doddie.
